Die Singphoniker is a German male classical vocal ensemble based in Munich, founded in 1980 by six students of the Musikhochschule München. Initially modeled after the Comedian Harmonists, the group expanded its repertoire to include vocal chamber music from Gregorian chant to contemporary pop and crossover projects. The ensemble achieved early professional recognition by winning the Number 1 Prize at the international choir competition in Gorizia in 1988. Their extensive recording career, comprising over thirty albums, is highlighted by the 1994 Diapason d'Or for the album Singphonic Mendelssohn. In 1997, the group was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque by the Charles Cros Academy for their recording of the complete polyphonic songs of Franz Schubert. The ensemble has premiered works by composers such as Enjott Schneider and Wilfried Hiller and made its New York debut at the Frick Collection in 1999.
