David Todd Rawlings, also known as Dave Rawlings, born on December 30, 1969, in North Smithfield, Rhode Island, is an American guitarist, singer, and record producer. He attended Berklee College of Music. Rawlings' musical partnership with Gillian Welch began early in his career. In 2009, he released A Friend of a Friend under the name Dave Rawlings Machine, featuring Welch as a co-writer on five songs. His second album, Nashville Obsolete, was released in 2015 and named to Rolling Stone's list of the top 40 country albums of 2016. Rawlings and Welch were nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 91st Academy Awards for "When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings" from The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. In 2020, they released All the Good Times (Are Past & Gone), which won the Grammy Award for Best Folk Album in 2021.
