Dora Lopes, born Dora Lopes de Freitas Lopes on November 6, 1922 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was a Brazilian singer and composer of Música Popular Brasileira who died December 24, 1983 in São Paulo, Brazil. At age 14, she left home to pursue radio singing, later performing on Ary Barroso's program on Rádio Nacional. She released her first record in 1948 and performed on stations such as Rádio Mayrink Veiga. In 1962, she earned the Prêmio Chico Viola for her composition "Samba da Madrugada", and issued albums including Minha música e eu (1965) and Testamento (1974). She toured France, Italy, Switzerland, Venezuela, Mexico, and the United States, collaborating with prominent Brazilian musicians. Following a severe car accident in 1965, her career suffered a decline.
