Ame Son was a French progressive rock group formed in June 1969 by singer and drummer Marc Blanc, bassist Patrick Fontaine, flutist François Garrel, and guitarist Bernard Lavialle. The origins of the group began in 1967 when Daevid Allen left Soft Machine and met Blanc and Fontaine in France to form the band Bananamoon, before departing to found Gong. The group's style blended elements of psychedelic rock and avant-jazz, creating a unique sound heavily influenced by early Gong. Their debut studio album, Catalyse, was released in 1970 by BYG Records, and they performed at major festivals that include Amougies, Les Halles, and Le Bourget. After separating in June 1971, the group reformed in 1973. They released the compilation album Primitive Expression in 1976, which contained recordings from 1971 and 1975 and was reissued in 1998. The group also reformed temporarily in 1995 for a few concerts with guitarist Jean-François Pauvros.
