Urban Cookie Collective was founded in Manchester, United Kingdom, in 1992. The band emerged from the circle around producer and DJ Rohan Heath. Other key members included singer Diane Charlemagne, who had previously worked with 808 State, among others, as well as various session musicians. The project operates within the genres of Eurodance, house, and dance-pop, thereby shaping European club music of the 1990s. Beginning in 1992, the group released its first productions in the British dance scene. Their international breakthrough came in 1993 with the single “The Key the Secret”, which reached high chart positions in several European countries, including No. 2 in the UK. The release established the band as an integral part of the Eurodance wave of the early 1990s. Their debut album, High on a Happy Vibe, followed in 1994, building on the single’s commercial success and entering the dance charts in various countries. Other well-known singles were released in the following years, including “Feels Like Heaven” (1993), “Sail Away” (1994), and “Spend the Day” (1994). These releases continued the collaboration between Rohan Heath and Diane Charlemagne. After reaching its commercial peak in the mid-1990s, the project began to lose its chart presence. A second studio album failed to achieve comparable international success. Diane Charlemagne died on October 28, 2015, in Manchester.
