Laufer, a Croatian rock band from Rijeka, was formed in 1986. The group initially gained traction with their debut album The Best Off ..., released in 1994 under the minor label Corona. In September 1994, Laufer members Damir Urban, Vlado Simčić, Ljubo Silić, and Alen Tibljaš (drums) recorded the album on Krk Island, Croatia. Later that year, they released their second studio album, Pustinje, under Croatia Records, which received positive reviews from both audiences and critics. The album's themes included everyday life struggles such as insomnia, neurosis, anger, and spiritual searches in urban environments. In 1995, Laufer won the Porin music award for the best alternative rock album of the year. The band disbanded in 1996 but reunited briefly after 2003, releasing a compilation album, Epitaf, in 2004 under their former label Croatia Records.
