Ambient, IDM and slowed classical from Paris. New: Scheherazade, Op. 35 — Rimsky-Korsakov at half tempo.
rt4a is the musical project of Arthur Fouray, a French artist and curator born in 1990 in Paris. The catalogue moves between new wave, ambient, IDM, electronic and downtempo, and includes half-speed reworkings of classical repertoire — most notably Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, Op. 35, slowed to half tempo across all four movements until the score behaves like ambient music without a single added sound.
The work comes directly out of exhibition-making. Titles such as Beware of Curator (Smithson: Cultural Confinement), Galeries and Ecco Beach take their material from gallery spaces, installation work and the literature of curating.
Arthur Fouray studied Visual Arts at ECAL, completing a Master's under the supervision of Stéphanie Moisdon. He co-founded Silicon Malley, an artist-run space, in 2015, was part of the exhibition team at DOC in Paris from 2016 to 2018, and has since 2019 been Archivist and Curator at LUMA Arles, where he is in charge of Hans Ulrich Obrist's archives.
