Ancestral Legacy, a Norwegian gothic metal band, was founded in December 1995 as Permafrost by Eddie Risdal. Initially inspired by extreme metal bands such as Dissection and Darkthrone, the group released two demos, Ancestral Legacy in 2000 and Emptiness in 2002. In 1999, they changed their name to Ancestral Legacy and shifted their musical style towards symphonic metal. Their debut album Of Magic Illusions was released in 2005 and included the music video for "Crash Of Silence". The band's second studio album, Nightmare Diaries, was released by Femme Metal Records in 2010. In September 2014, they released their third studio album, Terminal, with Mexican singer Isadora Cortina on vocals. In 2019, the band released the EP The Silent Frontier.
