Ton Steine Scherben, a pioneering German rock band, was formed in 1970 in West Berlin by vocalist Ralph Möbius, known as professionally as Rio Reiser, Kai Sichtermann, and Wolfgang Seidel. Their first significant appearance was at an open-air concert on September 6, 1970. The band released their debut album Warum Geht Es Mir So Dreckig in 1971 through their own label, David Volksmund Produktion. Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, they released several influential albums including Keine Macht Für Niemand, Wenn Die Nacht Am Tiefsten..., and Mannstoll. Known for their highly political and emotional lyrics, Ton Steine Scherben became a musical voice of the new left movements. The band disbanded in 1985. Rio Reiser died in August 1996. Ton Steine Scherben later reunited for occasional concerts, including a tour in 2014.
