Advanced Chemistry, a German hip hop group from Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, was founded in 1987 by Toni L, Linguist, Gee-One, DJ Mike MD (Mike Dippon), and MC Torch. The group is recognized as a pioneer in German hip hop, notably for being one of the first to rap predominantly in German. Their breakthrough came with the single "Fremd im eigenen Land", released in 1992, which addressed the marginalization experienced by ethnic minorities in Germany. Advanced Chemistry's debut album, Advanced Chemistry, was released in 1995. The group tackled controversial social and political issues, distinguishing them from other early German hip hop acts like Die Fantastischen Vier. They introduced the term "Afro-German" into the context of German hip hop and highlighted themes of race in their music.
