Die Elenden, a German band from Schwedt, was formed in 1998 by Gunnar aka Das Lange Elend (vocals) and Ulrich Wentzlau aka Kinski (bass). Gerrit, also known as, Gerri Monster joined as guitarist in 2000, with Tim Taler serving as the drummer. The group played punk, ska, and folk music and notably won first place at the Rio Reiser Song Prize in 2001. Their first album, Bacilly (2002), was named after a small town in Normandy. Die Elenden performed at the Festival Européen des Arts in Bacilly in the summer of 2003 and released their EP Monster in 2004. On February 2, 2007, Die Elenden held their farewell concert at the Kesselhaus in Berlin's Kulturbrauerei, which was recorded for a live DVD and streamed online. The band officially disbanded following this event.
