Franz Koglmann, born 22 May 1947 in Mödling bei Wien, Austria, is an Austrian jazz trumpeter and composer. He studied trumpet at the Music and Arts Private University of the City of Vienna from 1961 to 1967 and earned a jazz degree in 1972. In 1973, he founded the label Pipe Records, releasing early collaborations with Steve Lacy and Bill Dixon. In 1978, he became artistic advisor to Galerie nächst St. Stephan, and in 1982 co‑founded the Wiener Musik Galerie. His ensemble Franz Koglmann Pipetet debuted in 1983, followed by the Franz Koglmann Pipe Trios in 1986 and the Monoblue Quartet in 1990. Notable releases include The Use of Memory (1991) and Nocturnal Walks (2007). Koglmann received awards such as the Hans Koller Prize in 2003 and the Ernst Krenek Prize in 2008.
