SomBy, a Sámi rock band from Vuotso, Finland, was founded in 2004. Initially consisting solely of girls, the group underwent line-up changes in November 2007 when two boys from Inari joined. SomBy signed with Tuupa Records in 2008 and released their debut EP Čáhppes Lasttat at the Ijahis idja festival on May 24, 2008. The following year, they won the Sámi Grand Prix with "Ii iđit vel" and secured first place at the Liet-Lávlut 2009 competition of minority-language bands. SomBy toured major Sámi music festivals during the summer of 2009, including Márkomeannu and Ijahis Idja. In 2023, Čáhppes Lasttat celebrated its 15th anniversary with a special re-release featuring bonus tracks and live recordings.
