Brot und Salz was a German rock ensemble from Ost-Berlin established in 1973 following the X. Weltfestspielen. The group emerged from the Gruppe Thomas Natschinski and performed a style of melodic rock with country and folk influences. The founding members included the Thomas Natschinski, Detlev Haak, Hermann Naehring, Martin Lehrmann, and Helmut Frommhold. Their recording career began with the single "Epilog" / "Deine Schritte sind so klein" (1974) followed by the single "Blues vom Abschied" / "Bleib nicht stehen" (1974) released on the label Amiga. In 1975, the ensemble contributed the titles "Machs gut altes Haus" and "Spielplatz" to the film Ein Schlüssel für ein neues Haus and undertook their first international tour in Poland and Belgium. The group struggled against the popularity of harder rock ensembles which led to multiple lineup changes. Natschinski left the group in 1976 to focus on composition and Ingo Koster assumed musical leadership, orienting the ensemble toward folk-rock. Brot und Salz became inactive at the end of 1977. Their discography included the compilation recording 60 Jahre Amiga / Vol. 18: Brot und Salz/Drei (2007).
