Sam Tshabalala, born in South Africa, is a singer known for his contributions to African music. He was a member of The Malopoets and participated in one of the first performances by black South African musicians at Johannesburg’s Market Theatre, a significant moment during the apartheid era. His music blends traditional South African elements with jazz, funk, and reggae. Sam Tshabalala’s songs often address the complex history and social issues of South Africa, using languages such as Zulu, Shangaan, Tswana, and English. He released his debut album, Afrique du Sud: Comptines, Danses et Berceuses, in 1981.
