Jiggs Whigham, born Oliver Haydn Whigham III on August 20, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio, is an American jazz trombonist. He began his professional career at the age of 17, joining the Glenn Miller/Ray McKinley orchestra in 1961. After a stint with Stan Kenton's touring "mellophonium" band in 1963, Whigham moved to New York City for commercial work but later settled in Germany. He taught at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin and played extensively with notable bands such as those led by Kurt Edelhagen and Bert Kaempfert. His discography includes albums like Trombone In Gold (1969), Values (1971), and Blue Highways (The Music of Paul Ferguson) (1998). Whigham worked for various ensembles, including the RIAS Big Band in Berlin and the BBC Big Band. He toured worldwide as a soloist, conductor, and educator.
