1. Mai 87, a German punk band from Erkelenz, was formed in autumn 1987 by Stefan Pieck, Rudi Müller, Ralf Bossems, and André Hoffmann. The band took its name from the events of May Day 1987 in Kreuzberg. The band released their first demo tape, Wunsch ist Wunsch, in 1992. This led to increased concert opportunities and the release of another demo, Nackt durch Jülich, in 1993. Their debut album, Viecher im Leib, was recorded in 1994 under Vitaminepillen Records. Following this, they released the live album Rastamannallematanzbeinschwingen in 1996. The group continued to release full-length albums including Fohlenwurst im Federkleid in 1997 and Wurzel in 1998. Also in 1998, they released "BolleBummBasta" as a single under Tollshock Records. After releasing the album Rip Off in 2000, the band disbanded following an extensive farewell tour that concluded on May 6, 2000, in Cologne. In early 2023, 1. Mai 87 resumed activity and reformed.
