Cylob, the stage name of Chris Jeffs, born in 1976, is a British electronica musician, disc jockey, and record label owner who also released music under pseudonyms including Kinesthesia, Ambient News, and Nonprivate. In his youth, he learned to play the trombone before shifting to electronic music, influenced by 1980s synth-pop, old-school hip-hop, and electro. After giving a demo tape to Aphex Twin, he signed to Rephlex Records. His first commercial release on the label was Industrial Folk Songs in 1993, followed by EPs including Cylob's Latest Effort (1997) and Diof 97 (1997), and his debut studio album Cylobian Sunset (1996). Although his music was predominantly instrumental, his best-known tracks, which featured speech-synthesis rap and vocals, include “Rewind!” (1999) and “Cut The Midrange, Drop The Bass” (2001). He also released albums through his own label, Cylob Industries, such as The Quantum Loonyverse (2015). In 2010, he won first prize at the Lomus 2010 music software competition for his animation software Particularity. He later relocated to Berlin, where he worked in software development and conducted programming workshops.
