Miriam Gauci, born on April 3, 1957 in Malta, is a Maltese operatic soprano. She began her voice training in Malta and completed her studies at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan, Italy. In 1984, she made her professional debut in Bologna performing Francis Poulenc's La voix humaine. Gauci quickly gained recognition for her well-managed voice, which was suited to lyric Italian roles. She debuted at La Scala in 1985 as Proserpina in Luigi Rossi’s Orfeo and performed in major European opera houses including Vienna State Opera, Hamburg, Geneva, and at the Wexford Festival. Notable roles included Marguerite and Elena in Boito’s Mefistofele, Donizetti's Anna Bolena. Her American debut came at the Santa Fe Opera in 1987 as Cio-Cio San in Madama Butterfly, followed by performances at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and San Francisco's War Memorial Opera House.
