Heinz Geisser, born on August 16, 1961, in Zürich, Switzerland, is a percussionist and jazz guitarist. He studied classical guitar under Ermano Maggini and percussion with Horst Hofmann at the Zurich Conservatory of Music. After earning his diploma in classical guitar, Geisser began exploring jazz guitar. His first recordings appeared in 1988 with Urs Blöchlinger. In the early 1990s, he shifted his focus to percussion and improvisational music. In 1992, while in New York, Geisser collaborated with Mark Hennen (piano), Jeff Hoyer (trombone), and William Parker in the Collective 4tet, resulting in recordings for Leo Records. With Ensemble 5, which he co-founded with Reto Staub, Robert Morgenthaler, Fridolin Blumer, and initially Vincent Daoud, Geisser released eight albums between 2012 and 2024, primarily on Leo Records. His discography includes albums such as Maze (1997), Orbit (1998), and Chromotomy (2004).
