Chris Dahlgren, born in 1961 in New York City, is an American jazz bassist. He grew up in Denver and initially played cello before switching to bass. Dahlgren studied jazz at the University of Cincinnati until 1986 and later pursued composition and experimental music at Wesleyan University under Anthony Braxton, Alvin Lucier, and Christian Wolff. His early career included collaborations with notable musicians such as Joe Lovano, Charles Tolliver, and Herb Ellis. In 1996, he released his debut album Slow Commotion, featuring Ben Monder, Tim Ries, and Kenny Wollesen. Dahlgren has been a member of the Jazz Mandolin Project since 1998 and has led various ensembles, including Lexicon with Gebhard Ullmann, Antonis Anissegos, and Eric Schaefer. His notable projects and albums include Resonance Impeders (1998), Best Intentions (2000), Johnny La Marama (2003), Mystic Maze (2010), and Dhalgren (2017).
