Third Ear Band was a British musical group formed in London during the mid-1960s. Most of their performances were largely instrumental and improvised, drawing on influences from Eastern raga forms, European folk, experimental, and medieval music. The band's first album, Alchemy, was released in 1969 under the EMI Harvest label. They gained wider attention when one of these tracks appeared on the Harvest sampler album Picnic – A Breath of Fresh Air (1970). The band also performed at the Rolling Stones Free Concert at Hyde Park on July 5, 1969. Third Ear Band notably recorded for Roman Polanski's adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Macbeth, released as Music from Macbeth in 1972. The group disbanded in 1993 due to ongoing health problems faced by leader and percussionist Glen Sweeney.
