Die Happy is a band from Germany founded in 1993. Stylistically, the band falls within the genres of alternative metal and alternative rock, with influences from nu metal, crossover, and post-grunge. The founding members include guitarist Thorsten Mewes, bassist Julian Rosenthal, drummer Marcus Heinzmann, and singer Marta Jandová. Their first releases—Better Than Nothing (1994), Dirty Flowers (1996), and Promotion (1997)—initially received little attention. In 1998, Die Happy won the Baden-Württemberg rockt competition for up-and-coming artists. The single “Supersonic Speed” first drew attention in 2000. The accompanying album Supersonic Speed reached No. 43 in Germany in 2001. Its follow-up, Beautiful Morning, climbed as high as No. 15 in Germany. With the albums The Weight of the Circumstances (2003, No. 6) and Bitter to Better (2005, No. 9), the band even managed to break into the German Top 10. After that, things quieted down a bit for the band. Die Happy still release albums regularly, though they no longer quite match their previous successes. Starting in the 2010s, the intervals between releases grew longer. Red Box (2010) was followed in 2014 by the album Everlove. It wasn’t until 2020 that Die Happy released another album, Guess What.
