Belmez was the solo project founded by Karsten "Zwerg" Breitung after he left Eminenz. The project, named after the Spanish village Bélmez de la Moraleda, debuted with the demos In Memory (1993) and Gore (1994), which showcased dark metal with German lyrics inspired by German Romanticism and authors such as Edgar Allan Poe and H. P. Lovecraft. In 1995, Berserker and Siechtum were released through Napalm Records, while Wundgrind followed in 2001 via Christhunt Productions; each album was accompanied by a drum machine and vocal performances solely by Breitung. The project ceased in 2001, and Breitung later contributed lyrics to Legion of Sadism’s second album in 2003.
