Fredy Studer, born June 16, 1948, in Lucerne, Switzerland, was a Swiss drummer and percussionist whose career spanned jazz and contemporary classical music. In 1972, he co-founded the Lucerne rock-jazz quartet OM, touring Switzerland and Germany for nearly a decade with Christy Doran, Urs Leimgruber, and Bobby Burri. He later performed with the Franco Ambrosetti–George Gruntz Quintet, worked with the ensemble Percussion Profiles, and played in a trio with Rainer Brüninghaus and Markus Stockhausen during the 1980s. He also collaborated with percussionist Robyn Schulkowsky, performing works by composers such as Charles Ives, Steve Reich, John Cage, and Edgard Varèse. His discography includes the solo drum album Now's the Time – Solo Drums (2018). He received the recognition award of the Art and Culture Prize of the City of Lucerne in 1991, and was awarded the main Art and Culture Prize of the City of Lucerne in 2003. He died on August 22, 2022, at the age of 74.
