Disappears, an American indie rock band from Chicago, was formed in 2008 with Brian Case on vocals and guitar, Graeme Gibson on drums, Jonathan Van Herik on guitar, and Damon Carruesco on bass. The group's debut album, Lux, was released in 2010 under the label Kranky. Their second album, Guider, followed in 2011, after which Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth joined for subsequent tours and recordings, including their third album Pre Language (2012). In 2013, Disappears released their fourth album, Era, and recorded a cover of Kraftwerk's "Trans Europa Express" produced by Sonic Boom. The band released their fifth studio album, Irreal, in 2015.
