Candelilla

Candelilla is a German rock band from Munich. Formed in 2001, the group originally performed in the regional music scene and as an opening act for the band Slut. The ensemble's name was derived from the plant species Euphorbia antisyphilitica, which produces a wax used in lip balm. Following a lineup change in 2007 that included the addition of the drummer Sandra Hilpold, the band released its first studio album, ReasonReasonReasonReason, in 2009. The group's musical style is characterized by the use of both English and German lyrics and an experimental approach to song structure. Their subsequent recordings included the studio albums Heart Mutter (2013), which was recorded with Steve Albini in Chicago, and Camping (2017). In 2017, the ensemble received the Förderpreis Musik from the city of Munich.
