Paddy Glackin, born on 5 August 1954 in Clontarf, Dublin, is an Irish fiddler and founding member of The Bothy Band. His father, Tom Glackin, a notable fiddle player, taught Paddy traditional music from County Donegal. By age six, Paddy was playing the fiddle in the "Donegal style," and his classical violin lessons at Dublin's College of Music further honed his technique. In 1973, Glackin won the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil fiddle championship. During his college years, he formed The Bothy Band with fellow musicians including Tony MacMahon, Matt Molloy, Paddy Keenan, Mícheál Ó Domhnaill, Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill, and Dónal Lunny. After leaving the band, Glackin released his debut solo album Glackin (Ceol Ar An Bhfidil Le Paddy Glackin) in 1977 on the Gael Linn label. He continued to release notable albums such as Doublin' (1979) with Paddy Keenan and In Full Spate - Rabharta Ceoil (1991).
