Swans of Avon, a German dark rock group, was formed in Recklinghausen in 1992 by songwriter and vocalist Dirk Sonnet and included Jan D., Volli C., and Janus. The band’s first breakthrough came with the 1994 EP When Heaven Falls, followed by the 1995 EP Trust the Angels, which gained traction in the United States when the single reached top 10 on the Alternative‑College charts and became a club hit in New York’s the Limelight. The group disbanded in 2000 after label disputes but re‑emerged in 2003 with the double album Alive.
