Henning Sieverts, born on March 6, 1966, in Berlin, Germany, is a German cellist, bassist, and composer. He began playing the cello as a child and studied at the Berliner Konservatorium from 1977 to 1984. He moved to Munich in 1985, where he studied journalism until 1990 while learning double bass and electric bass. He joined the Bundesjazzorchester in 1990 and subsequently performed with various ensembles, recording with musicians that include Phil Woods, Slide Hampton, Frank Foster, and Manny Albam. His extensive discography includes the albums Goldfischgesänge (1995), Brooklyn Blue (1997), Hidden C (2004), Blackbird (2007) with his quintet Symmetry, and Symmethree (2012). He has received numerous awards, including the Bayerischer Staatspreis in 1999 and the ECHO Jazz for Instrumentalist of the Year in 2010. His work also includes producing and moderating jazz programs for the Bayerischer Rundfunk.
