William Reese Owsley III, known professionally as Owsley, was born on March 6, 1966, in Anniston, Alabama, and was an American singer and songwriter. He began playing guitar at age nine and started his career in the mid-80s with the Southeastern rock club band Baghdad. He moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where he joined Judson Spence's band. He later formed The Semantics, signing with Geffen Records. Their album Powerbill was released in Japan in 1996 but never saw a U.S. release. His solo career began in 1998 with the self-titled album, which was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album. He collaborated with notable artists such as Amy Grant and Shania Twain, serving as a touring guitarist for both. He passed away on April 30, 2010.
