Mão Morta

Mão Morta is a Portuguese avant-garde rock ensemble from Braga established in 1984. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style characterized by post-punk, noise rock, and rock industrial and for being one of the most emblematic bands in Portuguese rock. The ensemble was founded by the musician Joaquim Pinto, the musician Miguel Pedro, and the vocalist Adolfo Luxúria Caníbal after Pinto saw a performance by the ensemble Swans in Berlin. Their recording career began with the debut eponymous studio recording Mão Morta (1988) released on the label Ama Romanta. Mão Morta achieved professional recognition for performing as a support act for the ensemble Wire and the ensemble Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. They achieved professional recognition for a lineup change in 1990 when the musician José Pedro Moura replaced Pinto. Their discography included the studio recording Corações Felpudos (1990) and the studio recording O.D., Rainha do Rock & Crawl (1991). The ensemble achieved professional recognition for the studio recording Mutantes S.21 (1992) which reached number 28 in the Portuguese charts and featured the hit single “Budapeste”. Their recording career included the studio recording Pesadelo em Peluche (2010) and the studio recording No Fim Era o Frio (2019).
