Elke Martens, born Elke Gierth on February 5, 1956, in Dresden, Germany, is known as a German singer and lyricist. She studied artistic education and German studies before focusing on dance music at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden. Martens gained early success with her rock group Megaphon but faced professional setbacks due to provocative performances. In 1981, she starred alongside Dean Reed in the film Sing, Cowboy, sing. After transitioning to schlager music, Martens achieved a breakthrough with the song "Im Namen der Liebe" (1989). Her career flourished post-reunification with hits like "Heimlich von Dir geträumt". She released several albums including Teil mit mir meine Träume (1997), Es ist Weihnachtszeit (1994), and Ich will mit dir fliegen (1999). In 2011, Martens suffered a stroke. She later released the single "Ich bin wieder da".
