Fanta Damba, born in 1938 in Ségou, Mali, was a Malian singer and griot. She began singing at seven under the region's principal griot. By sixteen, she had gained local recognition. In 1958, when Mali declared itself the Sudanese Republic within the French Community, she started her professional career with Radio Mali and became prominent by the 1960s. Her discography includes Première anthologie de la Musique malienne, vol. 6, which was released in 1970. In 1975, she toured Europe, marking her international debut. A compilation of his works was published in three volumes in 2002.
