Gérard La Viny, born 17 April 1933 in Basse‑Terre, Guadeloupe, was a French musician and composer. After studying violin, solfège and guitar, he moved to Paris, performing in local restaurants while continuing his education. His breakthrough came in 1958 with Fontana releases "Sans Chemise, Sans Pantalon" and "Ma mère, c’est ta belle‑mère", which charted in France. He also issued albums such as Fete Creole Aux Antilles (1970) and Mariage Créole Aux Antilles (1981), working with Henri Salvador and Boris Vian. He was named Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in 2006. La Viny died on 6 October 2009 in Paris.
