Madan Mohan Kohli, born June 25, 1924, in Baghdad, Mandatory Iraq, was an Indian film score composer. After early broadcasts on All India Radio, he scored his breakthrough with the film Aankhen (1950). His compositions included "Lag Jaa Gale" from Woh Kaun Thi? (1964) and "Baiyyan Na Dharo" from Dastak (1970), the latter of which earned him the National Film Award for Best Music Direction. He frequently collaborated with lyricists Kaifi Azmi and Sahir Ludhianvi on ghazal compositions for Hindi cinema. Following his death from liver cirrhosis on July 14, 1975, his son Sanjeev Kohli adapted his unused melodies for the film Veer-Zaara (2004), earning a posthumous IIFA Award for Best Music Director.
