Milan Munclinger was born on July 3, 1923, in Košice, Czechoslovakia, and was a Czechoslovak flutist, conductor, composer, musicologist, and music journalist. From 1946 to 1948, he worked as an assistant to Václav Talich in the Czech Chamber Orchestra. In 1951, he and his wife, harpsichordist Viktoria Švihlíková, founded the chamber ensemble Ars rediviva, which became important in the revival of Baroque music. He also edited and performed early music, taught at the Prague Conservatory, founded several ensembles, and promoted historically informed performance. He collaborated closely with French flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal, with whom he made recordings of Baroque flute concertos and remained a lifelong friend.
