Jean Bosco Mwenda, born Mwenda wa Bayeke in 1930 in Bunkeya, Belgian Congo, was a Congolese fingerstyle acoustic guitarist. He developed a unique fingerstyle technique rooted in the Katanga style and gained international recognition after being discovered by musicologist Hugh Tracey in 1951. His recordings were released by Gallotone Records throughout the 1950s, making him popular in East and Central Africa. Mwenda's career saw a resurgence in the 1980s with concerts in Europe and new recordings. He died in a car accident in Zambia in September 1990.
