Hunter Valentine, a Canadian alternative rock band formed in 2004 in Toronto, Ontario, initially consisted of Kiyomi McCloskey, Laura Petracca, Leanne Bowes, and Aimee Bessada. Following their departure from True North Records in fall 2009, Hunter Valentine self-funded a 7-song album with Ian Blurton and signed with Tommy Boy. Their second album, Lessons from the Late Night, was released in 2010. In 2013, they opened for Cyndi Lauper during her North American tour and joined the Vans Warped Tour in July 2014.
