San Bao, born June 5, 1968, in China, is a Mongolian Chinese composer. He started playing violin at four and piano at 11, moving to Beijing at 13 to study at the Central Minority University. After graduating from the Central Conservatory of Music, he conducted numerous orchestras and directed the Beijing Symphony Orchestra (1991-1993). Inspired by Western music, San Bao collaborated with Hong Kong and Taiwanese songwriters, composing hits for artists like Su Rui and Mao Amin. He composed original scores for Zhang Yimou's films The Road Home and Not One Less, released in 1999, with the violin theme from Not One Less becoming notable for its emotional resonance. San Bao also produced popular pop albums and his soundtracks for films and TV such as Gada Meilin and Flying Over the Nursing Home became popular in China.
