Zigmars Liepiņš, born on October 14, 1952, in Liepāja, Latvian SSR, is a Latvian composer and keyboard player. He began composing at 17 and joined the band Santa, winning an award for best folk song arrangement at the 1970 festival Liepājas Dzintars. Liepiņš later became a keyboard player and songwriter for Modo. He gained popularity in the 1980s with hits such as "Vēl ir laiks" and "Ceļojums". Liepiņš wrote the soundtrack for the film Vajadzīga soliste, marking his debut in cinema music. Throughout his career, he composed music for choirs, solo artists, orchestras, films, theatres, and operas, including the rock opera Lāčplēsis and the opera Parīzes Dievmātes katedrāle. He received the Latvian Music Award in 1997 for Parīzes Dievmātes katedrāle.
