Brasstronaut was a Canadian band from Vancouver, British Columbia, formed in 2007. The group released their debut EP Old World Lies in 2008 on Unfamiliar Records, which included a video for "Requiem for a Scene". In early 2009, Brasstronaut recorded their first full-length album, Mount Chimaera, during a residency at the Banff Centre. The album was released on March 2, 2010, and two of its tracks were later featured on the soundtrack of the video game WET. Mount Chimaera was long-listed for the 2010 Polaris Music Prize, and "Hearts Trompet" from the album won the SOCAN Songwriting Prize in 2010.
