Julia Nunes is relentlessly personal. That, plus her strangely cello-like voice and thought-provoking lyricism garnered her a loyal and long-standing following that has carried her from playing the ukulele on YouTube to dropping an album on Conan. Julia's captured the hearts of fans worldwide, who have been patiently awaiting the release of UGHWOW.
Dubbed a ‘DIY Pop Star’ by Billboard, Julia’s new Billboard charting album UGHWOW is the next evolution in her musical journey, drawing influence from a range of artists; Frank Ocean, SZA, King Princess, Christine and The Queens and Perfume Genius. She strums the ukulele a total of 3 times on this record and still evokes the extreme tenderness of her acoustic beginnings. UGHWOW was produced by Shruti Kumar (Vampire Weekend, No Doubt, LAE), mixed by Vera Byramji (Shirley, Father John Misty, Roger Waters & Lucius), and mastered by Heba Kadry (Alex G, Lucy Dacus, Palehound, Princess Nokia).
On her new music video for the break-up bop 'Used to Want,' says Julia, "When you can hardly get out of bed, sometimes it helps to dance around your room to a song that perfectly encapsulates how you feel. And when no songs exist, you write your own! It's a music video for a song about trying to accept a reality you regret creating like breaking up with someone, wanting them back, and them realizing they're better without you...just for example.”
