Dephosphorus, a Greek metal band formed in Athens in 2008 by guitarist Thanos Mantas and vocalist Panos Agoros, emerged from the dissolution of their previous group Straighthate. Their initial release was the EP Axiom in June 2011. The following year saw the debut album Night Sky Transform, which marked a shift away from synthesizers towards more aggressive music. In February 2014, Dephosphorus released Ravenous Solemnity, featuring new drummer John Votsis. Their subsequent albums included Impossible Orbits in June 2017 and Sublimation in September 2020. The band's blend of grindcore and extreme metal, which they termed "Astrogrind," explored themes of science fiction, astronomy, and cosmology. Notable releases include the split EPs Dephosphorus / Wake, Dephosphorus / Great Falls, and collaborations such as the LP with Haapoja in 2015.
