Dark Castle, an American doom metal band from St. Augustine, Florida, was formed in 2005 by Stevie Floyd and Rob Shaffer as a death-metal act. Initially using a drum computer and both playing guitar, they transitioned to a psychedelic-influenced death-doom sound with Shaffer on drums. Their first release, the EP Flight of Pegasus, was self-released in 2007 and featured a cover of Led Zeppelin's "No Quarter". Following tours with bands like Rwake, Torche, and Black Cobra, Dark Castle signed to At A Loss Recordings for their debut album Spirited Migration (2009), produced by Phillip Cope. The band then released Surrender to All Life Beyond Form in 2011 via Profound Lore Records. Dark Castle toured extensively with acts like Pelican and YOB in 2011 before taking a hiatus in 2012. Subsequently, Floyd continued to engage in various musical projects and creative design work.
