Daníel Bjarnason, born on February 26 1979 in Iceland, is a composer and conductor whose early training in composition, piano and conducting in Reykjavik led him to further studies at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg. He gained prominence with his debut album Processions (2009), praised by TimeOut NY for its notable classical sound. Subsequent releases—Sólaris (2011), Over Light Earth (2013), and Djúpið (2017)—were issued on Bedroom Community and earned him Icelandic Music Awards, including Composer of the Year and Best Classical CD for Over Light Earth in 2013. Bjarnason composed for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, served as artist-in-residence at the Iceland Symphony Orchestra from 2015-2018, and collaborated with artists such as Ben Frost, Sigur Rós, and Brian Eno.
