John Carlini is an American jazz guitarist and arranger. His musical journey began with a strong foundation, as his father was a violinist for the New York Philharmonic and his mother a concert pianist. After serving in the United States Navy, Carlini enrolled at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He formed a friendship with David Grisman and became the musical director for Grisman's quartet. Carlini appeared in the movie King of the Gypsies as a guitarist alongside violinist Stephane Grappelli. He toured for eight seasons as the musical director of the Ice Capades and orchestrated the off-Broadway musical Song of Singapore. Notable collaborations include work with mandolinist Todd Collins in their jazz-bluegrass hybrid group Over the Edge, and performances with Tony Rice on the album River Suite For Two Guitars (1995). Carlini was nominated for two categories at the 1997 Nashville Music Awards.
