Ultralyd, a Norwegian jazz/free rock band, was established in 2004 in Stavanger. The band was initiated by saxophonist Frode Gjerstad and initially featured a chaotic free rock approach. Ultralyd released their self-titled debut album in 2004, followed by Chromosome Gun in 2005. After the second album, Gjerstad left the band and was replaced by Kjetil Møster. The lineup also included Anders Hana on guitar, Kjetil D. Brandsdal on bass, and Morten J. Olsen on drums and vibraphone. Ultralyd's direction evolved towards more structured improvisation and compositional elements, integrating influences from contemporary and electronic music, funk, and doom metal. Notable releases include Throb And Provision (2006), Conditions For A Piece Of Music (2007), Renditions (2009), and Inertiadrome (2010). The band also released the single "Average Human Being" in 2010.
