Pontiak, an American psychedelic rock band from Baltimore, was formed in 2005 by brothers Jennings, Lain, and Van Carney. The band's early work includes the EP White Buffalo, released on their own label Fireproof Records in 2005, followed by their debut album Valley of Cats in 2006. Pontiak signed with Thrill Jockey Records in 2007 and released their second album, Sun on Sun (2008). They collaborated with Arbouretum on the split EP Kale, featuring cover versions of John Cale songs, which was released in 2008. Throughout the late 2000s and early 2010s, Pontiak continued to release albums including Maker (2009), Sea Voids (2009), Living (2010), Echo Ono (2012), Innocence (2014), and Dialectic of Ignorance (2017). The band's music blends psychedelic rock with folk elements, often recorded on their farm near Warrenton, Virginia.
