Genevieve Lacey was born in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea and raised in Australia from 1980, is an Australian musician and recorder virtuoso, working as a performer, creator, curator, and cultural leader. She studied with Judith Clingan and Helen Fairhall before completing postgraduate research at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and the Carl Nielsen Academy of Music, earning a diploma in recorder performance in 1998. Her work includes the 2013 release of Conversations with Ghosts, which features a collaboration with Paul Kelly. Subsequent projects include the 2018 live concert Soliloquy, the 2023 performance piece Consort of the Moon, and the permanent installation Breathing Space at the National Museum of Australia. She has performed with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Royal Albert Hall, and the BBC Proms, and has commissioned works from composers such as Brett Dean and Nico Muhly. Her roles as artistic director for festivals such as Musica Viva Australia's FutureMakers and Four Winds Festival earned her the Helpmann Award for Best Touring Production for Namatjira and the Green Room Award for Best Composition and Sound for One Infinity.
